TP-1 Angels Expose Leaks in Fairytale Land (Grades 4 - 8)

This play, written in cooperation with a twelve-year-old girl, combines two things that everyone can’t get enough of - the predictable world of fairytales and the unpredictable world of crime fighting. In this Charlie’s Angels’ spoof, Rapunzel, Maid Marion, and Cinderella team up to try and discover who has been leaking information about fairytales to the media. The
three heroines end up exposing more than one type of “leak” in fairytale land, before getting to the bottom of the case. This play follows an essay format, as it has an introduction, three problems, and then a solution. What better way to introduce essay writing!

TP-2 A Fairytale Medley (Grades 4 – 6)

“A Fairytale Medley” is exactly that, a great play for an enthusiastic cast of three, or easily divisible into smaller sections for tiny groups of practicing actors. This silly script integrates different fairytales into an interesting collage of scenes including tableaus, storytelling, recognizable references to modern media, and audience participation. It has been used many times very successfully by a traveling acting troupe that tours to schools, birthday parties, and community events. With a lot of interesting, easily-accessible props and fun twists on traditional fairytales, this play is sure to keep both the performers and audience engaged and amused. There are activities and lesson plans that accompany this play.

In order to win the contest, Cindy must attend Damen’s concert and qualify under the secret criteria that the singer has written down and sealed in a confidential envelope. In the play, “Overworked and Underpaid,” evil fairytale characters unionize in order to obtain equal rights, better working conditions, insurance, benefits, and higher wages. When the good fairytale characters are reluctant to comply with the evil characters’ requests, the wicked witch leads them in a strike. The evil characters eventually take the good characters hostage, forcing the king to seriously consider their proposals. “The Potato Conspiracy” is about a covert group of alternative thinkers, known as The Rogue Cortex, who are trying to alert the world to the negative effects of continuous television watching. The Rogue Cortex has discovered that when people watch too much TV, they turn into potatoes. Although the broadcasting companies have been trying to hide the damaging side effects of their programming, The Rogue Cortex is determined to tell the public the truth. This play offers fun and original characters, a compelling plot, and a profound ending. The message conveyed in this script is very important, as the TV does seem to victimize many people in today’s society.

He is using television to try and brainwash the public into compliance. One of the side effects of his actions is that people are turning into potatoes. This play is an exciting sequel to the first, but also stands on its own. New and interesting characters are introduced, old characters are further developed, and the potato plot thickens. Treachery, deceit, failure, and triumph are the components that make this play as thrilling as the first.

TP-9 Wax Snapshots of Canadian History (For intermediate grades, especially 7 and 8)

This play summarizes the grade seven and eight history curriculum in a fun and unique way. Mrs. Kerbockle has brought her class to a wax museum to study Canadian History. The tour guide shows the class the exhibits, but as soon as the class leaves to view the next display, the statues come to life. These statues even use authentic languages as they converse, including English, French, and German. Beginning with Native Culture and ending with World War I, it is quite obvious that this play is an invaluable educational resource. Make history fun for the children in your life!

TP-10 Two Monologues

1. Teacher’s Pet (Monologue) (Appropriate for grades 2 and up)

“Teacher’s Pet” is a monologue about a student who tries to convince his/her teacher that he/she should be selected as the teacher’s pet. This script is written in a resume format, with the student listing his/her pertinent qualifications as if he/she is being interviewed by a perspective employer. Because this piece is amusing and easy for the kids to relate to, teachers can use it as a wonderful introduction to the job application process. It also makes a great audition piece or simply a fun activity guaranteed a laugh or two on a dreary, rainy day.

Three minutes is the approximate running time

2. The Phone Call  (Monologue) (Appropriate for grades 7 and up)

In this true-to-life monologue, an opinionated teenager named Leah revealsher frustration and insecurity after a phone argument with her love interest, Keith. Young teenagers seem especially attracted to this script, because they can relate to what Leah’s character is thinking and feeling. Isn’t it funny when someone says one thing, but means another? A monologue about a girl who frequently changes her mind, this makes a great audition piece.
