I-130 An Awesome Plan

I'M HAPPY IN MY HABITAT!
Not long ago, a reader in Colorado wrote "Dear Abby" asking her to educate her audience about how selfish (not to mention illegal) it is to take animals out of the wild and bring them home as "pets". The writer said, "At a time when we're already damaging our planet for our recreational pastimes, we need to be teaching our kids that living beings are not toys, but rather a valuable part of natural ecosystems. it's so much more fun to observe and learn from a turtle swimming free in the lake."
Abby responded: "Well said. Children (and too many adults) act on impulse when they pick wild plants and flowers or decide to 'adopt' little feral creatures that are destined to die when taken from their natural habitat. Earth Day is April 22 and it offers a chance for all of us to do something positive for the planet."
And so, on Earth Day, I sat down and took Abby's advice. The result is this script in rhyme. In the story, a number of characters talk about capturing a wild animal, putting it in a cage, and feeding it “people food”. As the script suggests, there are better ways to appreciate animals in the wild. A Readers Chorus offers sound advice and an alternate approach to understanding and enjoying the wildlife that is all around us.
