WRITERS NEEDED!
We've been getting a number of inquiries for Readers Theater scripts or Traditional Play scripts that have 20 or more characters and offer (more or less) equal participation from each character. In essence, these teachers want plays that involve the entire class and don't give all the lines to a small group of "leads".
It’s much easier to make this happen in a Readers Theater format because narrators are usually needed in RT and the narration can be divided between a large number of readers. However, it’s not impossible to achieve this goal in a Traditional Play format! If you are interested in trying to create this type of script, please read our "writers" information below.
SCRIPT WRITERS INFORMATION
Our Script Writers: Scripts for Schools publishes Readers Theater Scripts, Choral Speaking (Reading) Scripts, Traditional Play Scripts and some Puppet Play Scripts. We currently feature scripts from seven writers: Lois Walker, Linda Baten-Johnson, Deedra Bebout, Lee Karvonen, Eleanor Boylan, Rita Hestand, and Sue Russell. All are experienced teachers and/or published writers. We have also featured scripts from other writers, who in our opinion, have something unique to share.
Our approach: For accepted scripts, we offer the writer the opportunity to have his/her scripts published on-line as part of our catalog. We will also ask writers to create new materials that might satisfy a particular curriculum need suggested by the writer or identified by Scripts for Schools. For all accepted scripts, we do limited online promotion through our www.scriptsforschools.com web site and with our various associates.
Our Criteria: All material we agree to publish must satisfy our editorial guidelines with respect to content and form. These are arrived at through consideration of the current needs of Scripts for Schools and the expertise offered by the script writers.
Our Publishing: Normally, copyright will remain with the author of the script. This means the writer is free to continue marketing his/her script to others. We ask only for a non-exclusive right to publish the script in hard copy, electronic, and CD-ROM formats. We will return the right to publish to the writer, upon request, with 60 days notice.
We pay a royalty of 10% gross sale price on an annual basis. Sale price is calculated on our download list price for a single RT script, which is currently $14.95 USD per script. Traditional Play scripts sell for $19.95, and some packages sell for $23.98.
Writer Expectations: It should be understood that royalties will be modest. For example, if Scripts for Schools sells 10 copies of a script in one year, the royalty payable would be $14.95 ($1.49 x 10). Our most prolific writers receive the largest royalty payments because we are able to market numerous titles under one writer’s name and, over a number of years, a writer’s accumulative royalties can become substantial. We currently have more than 150 scripts listed in our catalog.
